Exploring Japan | Himeiji Castle

One of the largest castles in Japan, Himeji Castle was one of Japan’s first UNESCO sites and a beautiful place that totally worth the trip out to visit. We were on the rail pass, so visiting Himeji from Osaka meant a 22 minutes ride on the Rapid Express Trains with no extra charges. The weather was beautiful when we visited. It was a nice change the fast paced city life that Osaka was all about, and fresh crisp air was just refreshing. We got ice cream from the vending machine and munched our way up to the castle. The climb to the top of the castle is not for the weak-hearted: slopes to the castle doors, steep staircases that are mega slippery. Yet, the view from the top is totally worth the climb. On a clear day, you could see the entire city. We also jumped at the opportunity to take the Shinkansen from Himeji to Kyoto, and paid a fortune for it. Captured by S.
